The county Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved spending up to $21.4 million on six affordable housing developments in South Los Angeles, La Puente, El Monte, Palmdale and the Antelope Valley.

The total estimated cost of the six projects is more than $136 million. The balance of the funds is expected to be paid by non-county sources.

Together, the projects will add 359 housing units. They are part of a broader package of 20 developments vetted by the county, some of which are pending environmental reviews.

Increasing the stock of affordable housing is one of the county’s six key objectives in combating homelessness.
