What is a golden garden gnome and why would you want it?
Regardless of your reaction to the gnomes, golden or otherwise, Mayor Eric Garcetti is inviting Angelenos to submit their best and most creative water conservation ideas to a contest as part of the Save the Drop campaign.
One winner will be chosen from each of the city’s 15 council districts, with each awarded a golden garden gnome and a goodie bag of water conservation items.
“Los Angeles is making every effort to ‘Save the Drop’ by changing our water-using habits in order to respond to California’s historic drought, and in turn creating a more sustainable city,” Garcetti said. “Now we want to know how you did it. If you’re a ‘Drop Defender,’ stand up and be counted.”
Garcetti is also featured in a video in which he asks “drop defenders” to spread the message about water conservation by taking part in the contest.
Photos and videos with short descriptions of their water saving techniques are due Nov. 10 at http://www.savethedropla.org/dropdefenders
Entrants are encouraged to ask their friends to vote for their ideas, with the submissions that earned the most moving on to a pool of finalists who will be whittled down to the winners by an advisory committee.
The contest is part of the Save the Drop public service announcement campaign featuring a cartoon water droplet.
