Observers expect Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti in a Washington D.C. trip Wednesday to bring up his opposition to the Trump Administration’s immigration policies, particularly Attorney General Jeff Sessions warning to “sanctuary cities” over the possible loss of federal grant money.
Garcetti was in Washington D.C. to be honored by the National Council of La Raza at its 30th Annual Capital Awards and also to meet with House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi in a public forum about Trump Administration immigration policies.
The La Raza gathering recognizes national leaders who have advocated for Latinos.
The event is set to take place at the National Building Museum starting at 5:30 p.m. EST. The other honorees of the NCLR — a nonprofit, nonpartisan civil rights group that supports Latino causes — are Mayor Martin Walsh of Boston and Republican strategist Ana Navarro.
Garcetti is also scheduled Wednesday to be a guest of Pelosi for an immigration forum at the U.S. Capitol to discuss the impact of the Trump administration’s immigration policies on children and families. The event begins a 2 p.m. EST and will livestreamed at http://www.dems.gov/live.
