Your dog Spot may not be happy to learn that spots are still open for a free mobile spay and neuter bus that will be in the Riverside County town of Mecca east of Palm Springs Wednesday.

But you’ll need an appointment for surgeries for local dogs and cats.

The bus will be parked at the Mecca Family Service Center & Community Health Clinic, at 91275 Avenue 66.

Pet owners who make an appointment may drop off their pets between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday and pick up the animal between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Dogs must not weigh more than 50 pounds, according to the county.

The mobile bus, nicknamed the ANSWER on Wheels, will be making its stop in the eastern Coachella Valley thanks to recent repairs and funding donated by the Animal Solutions Konnection (or ASK) Foundation.

“We want to express our extreme gratitude to the ASK Foundation for helping us get the bus back to its high level of service and for helping us provide these valuable resources to our communities,” said Dr. Allan Drusys, the county’s chief veterinarian. “These outreaches are extremely important in the overall mission to reduce pet overpopulation, so we’re very thankful for the funding assistance by the ASK Foundation.”

Those wishing to make appointments can contact Craig Wllmerling at (951) 358-7335. Spanish speakers may call Dalia Santillan at (951) 358-7294. Surgeries will not be performed for walk-ins.
