A fire that erupted Wednesday in a rubbish pile alongside the Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona spread to surrounding vegetation but was quickly stopped by crews.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:32 p.m. next to the eastbound 91 at the Green River Road overpass, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Corona Fire Department crews reached the location within a few minutes and encountered flames spreading from the trash pile to grass. The eastbound 91 slow lane was shut down to enable crews to work safely around their engines.
There was no word on what might have triggered the fire, which was declared under control by 2:10 p.m.
