Starting Friday and continuing through Oct. 15, trains on the Metro K Line will run only every 20 minutes as Metro begins work to connect power lines running between the Westchester/Veterans Station and the future LAX/Metro Transit Center Station.

The installation of power lines, or overhead catenary service, is the first phase of integrating the K Line with the LAX/Metro Train Center Station, which is slated to open in fall 2024 and will include a link to a People Mover carrying passengers to the Los Angeles International Airport terminals.

The new LAX/Metro Transit Center Station is located at Aviation and 96th Street and it includes platforms to access Metro light rail trains, and an expansive 16-bay bus plaza that will serve Metro and other municipal bus operators, including Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, Culver City Bus, Torrance Transit, Gardena’s GTrans and Beach Cities Transit.

The K Line, which opened in October 2022, includes seven rail stations — Crenshaw/Expo, Martin Luther King Jr., Leimert Park, Hyde Park, Fairview Heights, downtown Inglewood and Westchester/Veterans. The line will extend next year to include the Aviation/Century Station and the LAX/Metro Transit Center Station, ultimately connecting to the existing LAX/Aviation station, linking up with the C (Green) Line.

A shuttle bus currently provides free service between the Westchester/Veterans and LAX/Aviation stations, and that service will continue operating during the electrical work.
