The deadline to confirm residency for candidates running for elected offices in the March 2024 election in the city of Los Angeles is Saturday, election officials said Tuesday.

Candidates for Council Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 14 and Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education District 1, 3, 5 and 7 must be residents within their respective districts by Oct. 7, according to the Office of the City Clerk.

Failure to meet the residency requirements will disqualify candidates from running for office, according to a statement from City Clerk Holly Wolcott.

The deadline is set by the City Charter as 30 days preceding Nov. 6, which is the first day that candidates can file a Declaration of Intention to Become a Candidate.

Additionally, candidates must be registered voters within their respective Council district to be eligible for election on the council. Candidates for the LAUSD board must be registered voters within the school district.

The Office of the City Clerk administers candidate filing for the city and the LAUSD.

The city’s primary nominating election will be held March 5, and the general municipal election will be held Nov. 5, 2024.
