One day after director and longtime Democrat activist Rob Reiner was killed with his wife inside their Brentwood home — allegedly by their son who has history of drug addiction — President Donald Trump Monday blasted the Hollywood icon and claimed without evidence that he was killed because of his criticism of the president.

“Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“… He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before,” Trump wrote.

The comments were met with quick derision by some Republican detractors of the president who blasted the remarks as disrespectful.

“Regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered,” Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Kentucky, wrote on social media. “I guess my elected GOP colleagues, the VP, and White House staff will just ignore it because they’re afraid? I challenge anyone to defend it.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, R-Georgia, who was once a staunch Trump supporter but has recently parted ways with the president, also blasted the Truth Social post.

“Rob Reiner and his wife were tragically killed at the hands of their own son, who reportedly had drug addiction and other issues, and their remaining children are left in serious mourning and heartbreak,” Greene wrote on X. “Many families deal with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues. It’s incredibly difficult and should be met with empathy especially when it ends in murder.”

Reiner, a progressive Democratic activist, was a longtime critic of Trump, once calling him unfit for office.

Trump’s comments Monday were in stark contrast to the tenor taken by him and many other Republicans following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. In the days following Kirk’s death, Trump and others blasted anyone who questioned Kirk’s conservative stances, accusing those critics of stoking political violence and disrespecting a murder victim.

“The Right uniformly condemned political and celebratory responses to Charlie Kirk’s death,” former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis wrote on X Monday. “This is a horrible example from Trump (and surprising considering the two attempts on his own life) and should be condemned by everyone with any decency.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on Monday also took issue with Trump’s remarks.

“The passing of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner is a tragedy. In moments of loss, decency matters,” Bass wrote on X. “Donald Trump’s response in this moment shows there is no bottom, no depth he will not sink to, even in the face of grief. Rob Reiner’s legacy as a filmmaker, advocate, and champion for children, families, and civil rights speaks for itself. Los Angeles honors his life and stands with all who are mourning this loss.”

Trump was asked about his comments later in the day Monday, and he stood by his post.

“Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person,” Trump said of Reiner, adding, “I thought he was very bad for our country.”

  1. Shocked by this editor of the this paper, that is simply a lie, the letter was posted on X and Social, no where did Trump say, he was killed because of Reiner’s incredible amount of insults and crazy antics..never, the post was inappropriate, but no question Reiner was a massive lunatic about the President. Trump should have kept his mouth shut, even with Reiner being extremely hateful with no fact. The hate factor with illogical liberals is well known.
