“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1” is on its way to being the second-highest grossing film of the year, as it holds down the No. 1 spot for the third straight weekend.

So far this year, “Guardians Of The Galaxy” sold $331 million in tickets,and “Winter Soldier” with $260 million appears about to be overtaken by the latest Hunger Games franchise installment.

This weekend’s estimated $21.6 million in sales will boost the cumulative “Mockingjay’s” North American take to $257.2 million so far, according to studio estimates released to the industry analyst firm, Rentrak.

No. 2 this week was “Penguins of Madagascar,” with an estimated $11.1 million weekend and $49.6 million over two weeks.

And in third place was “Horrible Bosses 2” at $8.6 million this weekend and $36 million over its two week run.

Rounding out the list of the 10 most-popular movies in the United States and Canada, as estimated by the studios and forwarded by Rentrak, were “Big Hero 6” ($8.1 million), “Interstellar” ($8 million), “Dumb And Dumber To” ($4.2 million), “Theory Or Everything” ($2.7 million), “Gone Girl” ($1.5 million), “The Pyramid” (debuting at $1.4 million) and “Birdman” ($1.2 million).
