Olympic athlete and reality star Bruce Jenner told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer that “I’m a woman.”
“For all intents and purposes, I’m a woman,” Jenner told Sawyer in an exclusive interview that aired Friday in a special two-hour edition of ABC News’ “20/20.”
The 65-year-old Malibu resident was interviewed locally and in New York, ending a long period of speculation in the entertainment world and on social media.
In the interview, he recounted his struggles with being transgender, which he said he has wrestled with since childhood.
“My brain is much more female than it is male,” he said. “It’s hard for people to understand that, but that’s what my soul is.”
Jenner won the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Summer Olympics held in Montreal.
