Less than half of the television pilots created for broadcast, cable and digital formats during the 2014-15 season were produced in Los Angeles, according to a report released Tuesday.

There were 91 pilots produced in the Los Angeles area, representing 45 percent of the 202 projects during the 2014-15 pilot development season, according to the 2015 Pilot Production Report by FilmL.A.

Researchers said the total number of pilots shot in the last year was on par with last year’s record-setting pilot season and was just one pilot shy of the previous year.

The projects for the 2014-15 development season included 111 dramas and 91 comedies. Of those, 21 dramas and 70 comedies were made in the Los Angeles area, according to the report.

Cities trailing Los Angeles include New York with 25 pilots, Vancouver with 16, Atlanta and Toronto both with nine and Louisiana with eight.

This was the first year the report tracked the number of digital pilots. There were 13 pilots made for Amazon, 10 for Netflix, two for Hulu and one for PlayStation Network. Another 85 pilots were for cable networks and 91 for broadcast.

“The television business has changed dramatically over the last 10 years,” FilmL.A. President Paul Audley said. “What hasn’t changed is the ongoing need to bring new pilots and series to California and greater L.A.”
