‘Daily Show’ boss Trevor Noah told staff to delete offensive tweets

Having learned from his own social-media gaffes, new “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah says he’s instructed his correspondents to review their own tweets, and prune the offensive ones.

“When we hired the new correspondents at the show, they asked me, ‘Have we checked their social media?'” the South African told The New York Times. “I said, ‘This is a good exercise: You go through every single tweet and tell me what you think we should get rid of.’”

His staff had questions, however.

“I don’t know, is this offensive? Is this not offensive? Is this bad?” he recalled being asked. “Exactly. You do not know what may or may not offend somebody. People go, ‘Trevor, you should clean your tweets.’ I go, I cleaned my life — I tried to grow as a human being.”

Noah was reminded of his tweets in 2009, which some considered anti-Semitic and sexist.

His Comedy Central debut as Jon Stewart’s successor is Sept. 28.
