George Takei of “Star Trek” fame wasn’t alone in reminding a Virginia mayor that you can’t round up Syrian refugees like Japanese during World War II. But his words hit the hardest. He was among the WWII internees.

He cited the U.S. government’s internment of Japanese “foreign nationals” during the war as a reason to be “better safe than sorry” in helping the refugees.

At age 5, Takei was interned with his family in 1942 at camps in Arkansas and northern California for four years.
