George Takei of “Star Trek” fame wasn’t alone in reminding a Virginia mayor that you can’t round up Syrian refugees like Japanese during World War II. But his words hit the hardest. He was among the WWII internees.

Mayor David Bowers of Roanoke, Va., issued a statement Wednesday urging a halt to relocation efforts “until these serious hostilities and atrocities end.”

He cited the U.S. government’s internment of Japanese “foreign nationals” during the war as a reason to be “better safe than sorry” in helping the refugees.

In a Facebook message Wednesday, the one-time Lt. Sulu invited the mayor to attend his “Allegiance” musical on Broadway as his guest.

At age 5, Takei was interned with his family in 1942 at camps in Arkansas and northern California for four years.
