Back in the day, a recording artist got a Gold Record for selling 500,000 units. Platinum was for a million sales. So what tops Platinum now that an Adele video became the fastest to reach a billion views?

After only 87 days, “Hello” reached the B-mark. By 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the count was 1,019,341,921 — with only 311,047 (or 0.3 percent) clicking “thumbs down.”

“The video beats out Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style,’ which held the previous record of 158 days. Adele’s rise shouldn’t be a surprise considering her latest album, “25,” was the most popular album of 2015 according to Nielsen Music,” said NBC News.

Some 17 videos on YouTube have reached the billion mark.

YouTube noted on its blog: “While 1 billion views is rare, it’s occurring at a faster rate” this year. Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ did it in 487 days, which set a record for 2013. The next year, Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ did it 97 days. Four of the 17 videos that reached a billion were released in 2015.”

Thankfully, there weren’t an Internet-crashing billion comments:
