Any other time, a happily married pop star being pregnant would be cause for celebration. But what if the music legend is two weeks shy of turning 50?

So it goes with Janet Jackson, whose first-bun-in-the-oven was confirmed Wednesday by ET online:

“The baby news comes after the 49-year-old singer — who will turn 50 on May 16 — announced last month that she will be postponing her tour to start a family with husband Wissam Al Mana. ‘We’re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change,’ Jackson explained in a video posted to Twitter on April 6. ‘I thought it was important that you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour.'”

In 2008, ET said, it spoke with Jackson about whether she and her then-boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri, would be open to having kids.

“I would love to have children of our own, but we also would love to adopt,” she said. “So we’ll see what happens. It’ll happen someday.”

Someday is now, and freelance ob-gyns were out in force.
