Amid terror fears over an Egyptair crash and the spiraling presidential race, Candace Payne gave the world a reason to smile Thursday with a video showing unrestrained delight.
She donned a Chewbacca mask and, with a boost from reddit, the whole world went wild as well. As of Friday morning, her video on Facebook had about 42 million views — all in under 24 hours.
“This is going to be worth it, I promise” she said in the smartphone selfie video. “At the end of the day, it’s going into my toy box” — and not her children’s.
The mask, bought at Kohls, led to a run on the electronic-sound masks elsewhere, and even bumped Kohls’ stock price.
“I’m a happy Chewbacca,” she said. “This is worth every penny.”
Even Peter Mayhew, the 7-foot-3 actor (72 on Thursday) who plays Chewbacca in the “Star Wars” series, agreed, posting on reddit: “Absolutely wonderful!”
And the interwebs agreed.
Kohl’s up 2% today. I know that the Chewbacca viral video isn’t the reason but it would be awesome if it were. Candace Payne, you rock! $KSS
