In a doctored image many have embraced, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is shown locking lips with political opposition leader Tom Mulcair as an anti-homophobia display in the wake of Orlando.
The Photoshop hoax was quickly debunked. But many wished it were true.
“All my gay male friends are sad cuz they wanted to kiss Trudeau next!” said one.
Another tweeted: “It is fake, but we still love it. Who doesn’t want to see Trudeau kiss another man?”
Buzzfeed said the image first appeared on JournalDeMourreal.com, a satirical Quebec website.
“After an event like this, we had to do something,” the site quotes Trudeau as saying in French. “I approached Tom to see what he thought, but I didn’t expect him to be so enthusiastic.”
Trudeau has been the target of hoaxes before, including last December, when the site Hot Global News reported that he had banned Donald Trump from entering Canada:
Here’s how people reacted to the concocted kiss:
The #Trudeau Mulcair kiss is a joke, but so are the US politicians sending “thoughts & prayers” to #Orlando while they take money from #NRA

Thing is, I think Justin Trudeau probably would kiss a man if he thought it would be helpful and not crass.
