The Southland is replacing Chicago as a major pipeline of “Saturday Night Live” featured performers — with two out of three new cast members coming from here.

And one is historic — the first Latina on the iconic New York City show.

“The three newbies are Mikey Day, Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor, who are joining the show as featured players and will make their debuts in the Oct. 1 premiere episode,” Eonline said of Monday’s announcement by NBC.

Born in Orange County, Day is a 1998 graduate of El Modena High School.

“In 2002, Day graduated from the UCLA with a degree in theatre. Subsequently, he became a member of The Groundlings, a Los Angeles-based improv and sketch comedy troupe. He performed at the ImprovOlympic in Hollywood for three months,” said Wikipedia.

Comedian and singer Villasenor is from Whittier.

“At 12 years old, she realized she could do singing impressions, her first being Britney Spears. She enjoyed making her peers at school laugh, so she performed singing impressions in the talent show,” said Wikipedia. “After that performance, she felt a tremendous change in her life and knew in her heart that she wanted to be a comedian.

The Chicago Tribune detailed Moffat’s background: “The iO Theater, Second City and Annoyance alum grew up in Chicago and created a variety of solo projects, including ‘Good Little Winnetka Boy’ and his web series ‘El Show with Alex Moffat.’ He also co-starred in the 2015 indie “Uncle John,” which premiered at South by Southwest last year.

Her ascension to the Not Ready for Primetime Players was celebrated:
