“South Park” has never been hesitant to criticize the establishment — until now.
The irreverent, often gross limited animation counter-culture touchstone seems to be defending the national anthem and taking on the NFL backup quarterback who created a storm of controversy for refusing to stand when the Star Spangled Banner is played before his San Francisco 49ers take the field.

Colin Kaepernick is the subject of a trailer for Episode 1. He said he refuses to stand because of his dissatisfaction with many of the nation’s policies, both major-party presidential candidates and police shootings and treatment of minorities.
As Red Alert Politics noted, “The clip mocked the San Francisco 49ers quarterback for his refusal to stand during the national anthem, and created his version of our country’s national theme song.”
The South Park lyrics of a new national anthem mocking Kaepernick:
“Colin Kaepernick is brave, cops are pigs, cops are pigs. Wait, someone just took my stuff, I need to call the cops. Oh no, I just said cops are pigs! Who’s gonna help me get my stuff? Why did I listen to Colin Kaepernick, he’s not even any good. Oh, I just got my stuff back, cops are pigs again, cops are pigs. Colin Kaepernick’s a good backup quarterback.”
The cartoon series returns to Comedy Central Wednesday with 10 new episodes.
Social media immediately focused on the South Park-quarterback-National Anthem battle.
Gabe Kovačić said on Twitter: “My biggest goal in life would be to be made fun of by south park in anyway.”
