If you own stock in companies that make 3D-glasses, sell! James Cameron says he’s working on technology to view his “Avatar” sequels without the annoying plastic spectacles.
Hollywood techies are atwitter over the director’s promise to overcome technical issues.
Cinemablend quoted Cameron as saying: “I’m going to push. Not only for better tools, workflow, high dynamic range and high frame rates — the things we are working toward. I’m still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen — with no glasses. We’ll get there.”
The tech site continued: “While glasses-free 3D is a technology that currently exists, producing it for a large movie theater screen has yet to be made viable. The primary issue is that in order for a 3D image to be presented to your eyes without glasses, the image has to be focused to a specific location.
“This means that doing 3D for a single player using the Nintendo 3DS handheld game console is not a problem, however, creating a 3D image for a theater full of people, all of whom are sitting at different angles and distances from the screen, is a big problem.”
Clear-eyed reaction:

If Cameron can do glasses-free 3D as he wants, that would be amazing. #Avatar #3D https://t.co/AbWHwkyhQ5

The Avatar sequels will be in 3D but you won’t need glasses. Didn’t they used to call that a stage play?
