Meryl Streep to be honored with prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award

Three-time Oscar winner and eight-time Golden Globe winner Meryl Streep will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association during next year’s Golden Globe Awards, the association announced Thursday.

A perennial favorite of the HFPA, the 67-year-old Streep has been nominated for 29 Golden Globes during her career, winning eight for her work in “Kramer vs. Kramer,” “The French Lieutenant’s Woman,” “Sophie’s Choice,” “Adaptation,” “Angels in America,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” “Julie & Julia” and “The Iron Lady.”

She also holds the record for most Oscar nominations for an actress, with 19. She has won three Academy Awards, for “Kramer vs. Kramer,” “Sophie’s Choice” and “The Iron Lady.”

“Meryl’s enthralling body of work across a diverse set of genres has made her a role model over the past 40 years, and she will continue to do so for generations to come,” HFPA President Lorenzo Soria said. “She has always taken roles with strong female  leads, creating art by showing vulnerability and portraying truth on the big screen. Simply put, she is a trailblazer, having paved the way for women in television, film and stage. For shattering gender and age barriers, all with finesse and grace, the HFPA is humbled to bestow this honor upon her.”

The award is presented to a performer who has made “an incredible impact on the world of entertainment.” Past recipients include Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Woody Allen, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Harrison Ford, Barbra Streisand, Robin Williams and Martin Scorsese.

She will receive the award at the Jan. 8 Golden Globes ceremony at the Beverly Hilton, hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
