Jimmy Kimmel will make minimum wage for hosting the 89th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre on Feb. 26. That’s minimum wage for someone working $10 an hour for 188 eight-hour work days.

He revealed his $15,000 Oscars pay on KROQ’s Kevin & Bean morning show. That pencils out to $5,000 an hour for a three-hour show. (Or maybe $1,000 a joke.)

“While the sum is significantly smaller than the scale of the event, Kimmel said producers had to pay him something,” reported E! News.

“You know why? I think it’s illegal to pay nothing,” Kimmel said. “I’m not sure I was supposed to reveal this, but nobody told me not to. I consider this their fault.”

Asked whether his pay is on par with previous hosts Billy Crystal and Chris Rock, for example, he said, “That’s what they told me.”

Kimmel reportedly makes $10 million a year for his ABC late-night show taped at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, and his net worth was estimated at $35 million in August.

But if Kimmel has energy left for the after-parties, he could take home swag-bag loot worth as much as $232,000 (if last year is an indication).
