With 2.2 million views after one day and close to 4,000 comments, John Oliver’s trailer for his upcoming season of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” is a perfect example of the Divided States of America.
Many assume the British comedian will devote his show to tweaking Donald Trump.
“Or (as) i call it “lets trash trump again by john oliver tonight,” said one YouTube commenter.
Another noted: “steven [sic] colbert and trevor noah have dedicated their shows to making fun of trump . hope john oliver will have something else to say.”
Febbie Jones3 posted: “I hope that Trump will not be his main purpose; We can get funny / horrific Trump stories from other shows (SNL, The Daily Show, etc.) and although all the segments Trump were spectacular, I prefer John talking about all the other terrible things that are going on in the States.”
Some recalled Oliver’s chant of “DO IT! DO IT! DO IT,” encouraging Trump’s presidential run for its comedic potential.
“Yes. This is the dumbass bolo that taunted Donald Trump to run for president so he could watch him lose. Like many have said ‘Take your shallow humor and go back to England,’” said David Rodgers.
Oliver’s Sunday half-hour show returns Feb. 12.
But others aren’t waiting to comment.
