Stay-at-home mother June “Mama June” Shannon is shown getting surgery at Marina Del Rey Hospital in a trailer of Mama June: From Not to Hot” on WE TV.

Shannon underwent bariatric surgery at the Lincoln Boulevard hospital.

Such a procedure causes weight loss by restricting the amount of food the stomach can hold, causing malabsorption of nutrients, or by a combination of both gastric restriction and malabsorption, says a leading trade association.

Last July, Hollywood Take noted Shannon’s weight loss but didn’t mention a TV show in the making: “Mama June first revealed her weight loss back in 2013. That February, she claimed she had dropped 102 pounds without even trying. She said she had slimmed down to 263 after weighing 365 in January 2011.”

Shannon also underwent plastic surgery.

“When I’m done, I’m not going to recognize myself in the mirror,” she says in the clip.

Huffington Post recalls her journey from mom of an overweight pageant entrant to a figure of fascination:

“Recall, if you will, that TLC canceled ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ in October 2014 after allegations that Mama June Shannon had rekindled a relationship with convicted child molester Mark McDaniel ― a man who abused one of her own daughters. Shannon denied the allegations, but the show was axed nonetheless.”

“Mama June: From Not to Hot” is a seven-episode series “will follow Mama June as she embarks on a quest of self-discovery that will redefine who she is as a woman, mother, lover and celebrity,” according to WE TV’s press release.

The show’s homepage adds: “During this extraordinary process, she will undergo not only a series of extensive plastic surgeries, but also intensive workouts with over-the-top trainer, Kenya Crooks, who’s also opening her eyes to a new healthy lifestyle. June will battle self-doubt, ongoing temptation to cheat, and a string of hilariously disastrous dates to become the woman she has always wanted to be.”

The show premieres at 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24.
