Tom Cruise is a “Messiah” within Scientology, says Leah Remini, the No. 1 “troublemaker” and ex-member of the religion with her own dissident show.
The anti-all-religions host greeted the A&E series host by likening her power to a former president: “You’re likely Reagan with ‘Tear down that wall.’ … Putting a human face on the people who suffer from this awful cult.”
Maher said Cruise “could end this singlehandedly,” referring to the worldwide Scientology movement.
“He could end this. Correct,” Remini said. “Because they are saying he singlehandedly is clearing the planet, is changing the planet, so most Scientologists believe.”

As Huffington Post notes: In Scientology, “clearing the planet” is the process by which “body thetans,” or aliens that members believe inhabit the planet, are eliminated. The actress has previously stressed how highly Scientology members regard the “Mission Impossible” actor, whom she called their “messiah.”
Elsewhere, Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan noted Scientology at his annual Saviours’ Day keynote address Sunday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit yesterday afternoon.
“He mentioned Leah Remini by name (well, almost), and seemed to question her motives for criticizing her former church,” reports Tony Ortega on his anti-scientology blog.
“Dianetics was something that allowed you to confront the things that make you other than yourself to help you move on with your life,” Farrakhan is quoted as saying. “Now, hell, they’re beating the hell out of Scientology now. So everybody want to run away. Farrakhan not that kind of man.”
