On the 19th anniversary of the fictional Battle of Hogwarts, author J.K. Rowling apologized Tuesday for killing off Professor Snape. All hell broke loose.

Potterheads swarmed social media.

Even the BBC was covering the debate, which spread like wildfire on social media.

“She’s previously said sorry for killing Fred Weasley and Remus Lupin,” said the British media giant.

“This year I’d like to apologise for killing (whispers)… Snape. *runs for cover*,” she tweeted.

“Aware of the controversy she was about to start, she asked fans not to argue over her choice of character given Professor Snape’s long-running hatred of Harry. However, her apology still sparked a lively debate on Twitter.”
