How could this be true — Rachel Maddow being offered a job by Roger Ailes?
Believe it. The concept of MSNBC’s liberal lion working for conservative Fox News was actually broached, Maddow told Howard Stern.
“He once told me that he wanted to hire me at Fox, and actually this was not that long ago. Within the last few years, he told me he wanted to hire me at Fox,” she said.
And?
“And then, he told me he’d never put me on the air. He’d just hire me, so nobody could put me on, and put me on ice. So I was like, ‘So you’d pay me a full contact to not work?’”
Stern asked: “Would you consider that?”
Maddow replied: “Who would not consider that?”
Maddow — who famously broke down at the news of Donald Trump’s election — again said she considered the late Fox News founder a “friend,” who she sought professional advice from Ailes.
Other revelations and reactions:
Not many people know that Ailes was a big fan of Maddow’s. He wrote a blurb for her book. Another big Maddow fan: Steve Bannon. No joke. https://t.co/YdXx8vc4sB
