Miles Teller — the fingers-bloodying student drummer in “Whiplash” — was free Monday after being arrested early Sunday on suspicion of being drunk in public.
The 30-year-old actor was “swinging side-to-side and slurring his speech when he was approached by police on Mission Boulevard near Thomas Avenue shortly before 12:30 a.m., said Officer Billy Hernandez,” The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
The arrest was in San Diego’s Pacific Beach area.
“As officers were talking with him, Teller lost his balance and almost fell into the street,” Hernandez told the paper,
“So at that point they determined he was unable to care for himself and place him under arrest,” he said.
The paper said Teller was taken to a detox center but was uncooperative, “so officers took him to jail.where he was booked on suspicion of being drunk in public. He was released later that day.”
Monday afternoon, Teller told his side of the story, saying in a tweet: “I wasn’t arrested. I was detained [because] there was no evidence to charge me with a crime.”
Went down to SD to see my buddy before he deployed. I wasn’t arrested I was detained bc there was no evidence to charge me with a crime.

Don’t believe everything you read, especially from a third party entertainment news source trying to get clicks. Appreciate the concern.
