J .R. R. Tolkien would never have guessed that his crazy creature Gollum from “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” would become an iconic movie character.

But would the English author have made of Gollum (Andy Serkis) reading President Trump’s tweets with such delicious high-pitched devotion?

Fantasy buff Stephen Colbert hosted such a performance Tuesday night on “The Late Show,” and the result was — you know — precious.

US magazine noted: “After discussing Serkis’ ‘War for the Planet of the Apes,’ Colbert asked the actor, 53, if he would mind reading aloud some of the president’s more notable tweets in the voice of his iconic character. Without missing a beat, Serkis jumped into Gollum’s notable crouched position and began to read.”

“The fake news media has never been so wrong,” said Serkis as Gollum, aka Sméagol. “Or so dirty. Purposely incorrect stories and phony sources to meet their agenda of hate. Sad”

Colbert pointed on the card to another line.

“Just this one, if you don’t mind?” he asked.

Serkis paused to read, then said: “Despite the constant negative press, covfefe.”

Followed by Gollum: “What’s covfefe, precious?”

Colbert says: “Nobody knows.”
