Hollywood had another down weekend, as the number one movie of the week — a scary feature called “Annabelle: Creation” — opened in the number one spot with an estimated $35 million sales mark.
“The only thing scarier than another ‘down’ weekend for the summer box office was the number one movie, that proved once again that horror as a genre is as popular as ever,” was the conclusion of movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian at comScore.
After four weeks of exhibition, “Dunkirk” was still the number two movie this weekend. It was estimated by its studio to sell $11.4 million in tickets by the close of business Sunday evening, in the United States and Canada.

“Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature” opened in the number three spot this weekend, with an estimated $8.9 million nut.
