George Clooney is trending for stories of selflessness. One is 4 years old, and the other recently.
Both involve largesse and consideration.
As noted by The Daily Beast, Clooney “gave 14 of his best pals a million bucks in cash in 2013 — and even paid the taxes on the gifts.”
“There’s a group of guys we call ‘The Boys,’” one of the friends, Rande Gerber, told MSNBC’s Headliners. “George had called me and ‘The Boys’ and said, ‘Hey, mark Sept. 27th, 2013, on your calendar. Everyone’s going to come to my house for dinner.”
Black luggage bags were arrayed on a table, and “George begins to say, ‘Listen, I want you guys to know how much you’ve meant to me and how much you mean in my life. I came to L.A., I slept on your couch. I’m so fortunate in my life to have all of you and I couldn’t be where I am today without all of you. So, it was really important to me that while we’re still all here together, that I give back. So I want you all to open your suitcases.’”
The suitcases each contained $1 million in $20 bills, Gerber said.
(Exactly a year later, George married human-rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin.)
On Wednesday, US Weekly reported how George and Amal Clooney, traveling with 6-month-old twins Alexander and Ella, gave first-class passsengers noise-canceling headphones along with a personal note apologizing ahead of time if the infants made noise on a British Airways flight to England.
“Director Quentin Tarantino happily accepted a pair of the custom-made headphones, which featured Clooney’s Casamigos tequila logo.
“George was nervous,” says the US source. “But the babies didn’t even make a peep.”
