But not one that helps their bottom line.
Winfrey took to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram on Thursday to wish her millions of fans “Merry Christmas” — and also warn them against gifting grifters.
“Hi, everybody,” she says while standing in front of decorated tree. “I just wanted you to know that somebody out there is trying to scam you, using my name and my avatar on social media, asking for money if you sign up for an OWN account on Instagram
“It’s a fraud, it’s a fraud, it’s a fraud! Don’t believe it. Don’t give up any of your bank accounts or personal information to anybody posing as me, or anyone else, for that matter.”
The BBC added details: “The accounts urge users to ‘follow page’ and ‘share with friends’ in order to receive handouts as large as $5,000…. After following the fake accounts, users are encouraged to privately send personal information, including email addresses and financial details, to the account owners.”
I was happy the the real @Oprah sent out that fraud video to make people aware…. that imposter almost got me here is what they sent me @RichOnOWN @Oprah @OWNTV pic.twitter.com/OEB6jFX5iY
