Jim Caviezel could be pressing his luck. The last time he portrayed Jesus Christ — in Mel Gibson’s “The Passion Of The Christ” — he was struck by lightning.
Also: He “dislocated his shoulder, battled hypothermia, suffered a lung infection and pneumonia, [and] endured eight-hour makeup sessions that left him with severe headaches and skin infections,” recounts Fox News.
Now the 49-year-old actor, who once trained at USC, appears headed to reprise the Son of God in a sequel, also by Gibson, on the resurrection.
And Caviezel isn’t modest about Gibson’s movie.
“I’ll tell you this much,” he told USA Today. “The film he’s going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It’s that good.”
Caviezel added: “The Resurrection. Big subject. Oh, my God. We’re trying to craft this in a way that’s cinematically compelling and enlightening so that it shines new light, if possible, without creating some weird thing.”
“Passion” had legs as well — as the highest grossing faith-based film in history ($611 million in worldwide distribution).
In 2016, Gibson told Stephen Colbert of “The Late Show” that “Resurrection” might feature characters visiting other realms.
“It’s not just some chronological telling of just that event,” Gib. That could be boring, and you think, ‘Oh, we read that,'” Gibson told Christian Post. “But what are the other things around it that happened?”
The sequel is said to be a few years away from shooting, but Caviezel is keeping her religious acting street cred as Luke of the Bible in the late March release of “Paul, Apostle of Christ.”
