SNL alumna Amy Poehler is far from being the face of the NRA.
But there she is — featured in a “thank you” GIF tweeted by the National Rifle Association. And the L.A.-based comedian didn’t find it a bit funny.
The NRA used a Leslie Knope clip of Poehler in “Parks and Recreation” to cheer on spokeswoman Dana Loesch, who had been on a CNN Town Hall and later said: “Many in legacy media love mass shootings” because weeping white mothers are “ratings gold.”
The 46-year-old comic isn’t on Twitter, but she conveyed a message to the NRA about the use of her image.
Michael Schur, the “Parks and Recreation” creator, posted the remark on her behalf (using his @KenTremendous handle).
.@DLoesch thank you for being the voice of over 5 Million #NRA members. pic.twitter.com/WDz7vujXfM

“Can you tweet the NRA for me and tell them I said (expletive) off?” Poehler said.
Other cast members also called on the NRA to delete the tweet.
.@NRA @DLoesch our good-hearted show and especially our Leslie Knope represent the opposite of your pro-slaughter agenda – take it down and also please eat shit. ???????? https://t.co/Ar2YF4yoic

My favorite tweets so far this morning are the Parks and Rec actors getting mad at the NRA for using an Amy Poehler GIF from the show in their tweet of support to Dana Loesch. Lol

I can confirm that the entire Poehler family despises the NRA and everything it stands for, but, hey, cool meme. https://t.co/ybPiWW1odD

I’m pretty sure Amy Poehler thinks your organization is a POS. Why don’t you use a gif of the lunatic Ted Nugent. He’s more your style.
