The 16-year-old son of slain Long Beach Fire Capt. Dave Rosa will throw a first pitch before Saturday evening’s San Diego Padres-Los Angeles Dodgers game.
Sammy Rosa, members of his family and a group of Long Beach firefighters will watch the game from a suite, donated by former “Entertainment Tonight” host Mary Hart and her husband, television producer Burt Sugarman.
The elder Rosa was fatally shot at the scene of an explosion at a senior housing complex June 25. He was 45.
Rosa began his career as a firefighter-paramedic for the LBFD on March 5, 2001. He was promoted to captain on Dec. 3, 2011. His last assignment was at Fire Station 10 in central Long Beach.
Prior to his assignment at Fire Station 10, Rosa was a training captain, responsible for teaching new firefighters in the recruit academy and delivering training to all firefighters as they rotated through the training center.
Rosa was an avid Dodgers fan and a coach, umpire and president of the San Juan Capistrano Little League.
Donations to the benefit fund established to assist Rosa’s family can be made at thefallenheroes.org/?portfolio=dave-rosa.
