Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” will carry a leading 11 nominations into Saturday evening’s 46th annual Annie Awards ceremony, recognizing the past year’s top animated films, but Disney’s “Ralph Breaks the Internet” is close behind with 10 nods.
The films will compete for the top award of best animated feature, along with “Early Man,” “Isle of Dogs” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”
The awards, presented by the International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, will be presented at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
Nominees for the best general-audience animated television program are Netflix’s “Big Mouth,” Fox’s “Bob’s Burgers,” Netflix’s “BoJack Horseman,” Cartuna’s “Human Kind Of” and Adult Swim’s “The Venture Bros.”
Oscar-winning actors Eddie Redmayne and Holly Hunter are on the nominations list, scoring voice-over nods their respective work in the films “Early Man” and “Incredibles 2.” Also nominated for voice acting in a feature film are Bryan Cranston for “Isle of Dogs,” Charlyne Yi for “Next Gen” and Sarah Silverman for “Ralph Breaks the Internet.”
Special awards will be presented during the ceremony, with three honorees being recognized with Winsor McCay Award for lifetime achievement — Academy Award-winning director, animator and art director Ralph Eggleston; the late Frank Braxton, the first black animator, animation director and guild president; and casting director, voice director and voice actress Andrea Romano.
The June Foray Award will be presented to the late animator Adam Burke for his “significant and benevolent impact on the animation community.” Burke, who died of cancer in 2018, worked on such Pixar features as “The Incredibles,” “Cars” and “Wall-E.” Ton Roosendaal, Dutch software developer and film producer, will receive the Ub Iwerks Award for Blender Open Source Animation Software; and a Certificate of Merit will be presented to ASIFA volunteer Jason Jones.
