Actor Vince Vaughn pleaded no contest Friday to a reckless driving charge stemming from his arrest last June at a sobriety checkpoint in Manhattan Beach.
Vaughn was immediately sentenced to three years probation and ordered to undergo a three-month alcohol program and pay fines in connection with his plea to a misdemeanor count of alcohol-related reckless driving, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The 49-year-old actor cannot refuse a preliminary alcohol screening test while on probation if requested by law enforcement, and an advisement was given that he could be charged with murder if he drives under the influence and a person is killed, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The actor, who entered his plea through his attorney, was stopped last June 10 at a checkpoint at Artesia Boulevard and Prospect Avenue in Manhattan Beach.
Vaughn, who is known for his roles in such films as “Swingers,” “Wedding Crashers” and “Hacksaw Ridge,” refused repeated requests to get out of his vehicle, according to prosecutors. He was arrested early that morning and released from custody later that day, according to jail records.
He was charged last year with one misdemeanor count each of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, driving with 0.08 percent blood-alcohol content or higher and refusing to comply with a peace officer or to submit to an inspection. Those counts were dismissed as a result of his plea to the reckless driving count.
