“`The Lion King” won three awards at Wednesday evening’s 18th annual Visual Effects Society Awards, including outstanding visual effects in a photoreal feature, while “The Mandalorian” won two awards, including outstanding visual effects in a photoreal episode.

The other nominees for outstanding visual effects in a photoreal feature were “Avengers: Endgame,” “Gemini Man,” “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” “Alita” and “Lion King.” “The Irishman” won for best supporting visual effects in a photoreal feature, beating out “1917,” “Ford v Ferrari,” “Joker” and “The Aeronauts.”

“Missing Link” won for outstanding visual effects in an animated feature. The other nominees were “Toy Story 4,” “Frozen 2,” “Klaus,” and “The Lego Movie 2.”

The awards were presented at the Beverly Hilton, in a ceremony hosted by comedian Patton Oswalt. Directors Martin Scorsese and Roland Emmerich received special honors during the event, along with veteran visual effects supervisor Sheena Duggal.
