Post Malone scored a leading 16 nominations Tuesday for the Billboard Music Awards, including a nod for top artist, while Lil Nas X collected 13 nominations and Khalid and Grammy sensation Billie Eilish both earned 12.
Post Malone was joined in the top-artist category by Eilish, Khalid, Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift.
Eilish, who swept all of the top Grammy Awards earlier this year, was also nominated for top new artist, along with Lil Nax X, DaBaby, Lizzo and Roddy Ricch.
Competing with Post Malone for top male artist honors will be DaBaby, Khalid, Lil Nas X and Ed Sheeran. Eilish and Swift were both nominated for top female artist, along with Ariana Grande, Halsey and Lizzo.
For top duo/group, nominations went to BTS, Dan + Shay, Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5 and Panic! At the Disco.
Lizzo scored 11 nominations overall, while Kanye West earned nine, Swift received 6 and Justin Bieber collected four.
The awards ceremony, hosted by Kelly Clarkson, will be held at The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Oct. 14 and broadcast on NBC. It was not immediately clear what format the awards show would take in light of the coronavirus. The Emmy Awards ceremony on Sunday was based at Staples Center downtown but was held mostly virtually, with nominees stationed primarily at their homes and shown using more than 100 remote cameras or computer hookups.
The Billboard Music Awards ceremony was originally scheduled for April 29, but was postponed due to the pandemic. The awards honor work released between March 23, 2019, and March 14, 2020.
The awards are based on a variety of factors, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay, touring and social engagement.
