Rita Moreno and Lin-Manuel Miranda will be among the honorees at the Critics Choice Association’s inaugural Celebration of Latino Cinema, the organization announced Tuesday.

The virtual event will be held Dec. 9, honoring those who made “significant contributions to film in 2021.”

Although other honorees will be announced later, the association will present Moreno — an Emmy-, Grammy-, Oscar- and Tony-winning actress — with an Icon Award, while songwriter, actor and director Miranda will receive a Visionary Award.

Also being honored during the ceremony will be Demián Bichir, one of only four Latino actors to be nominated for a best-actor Oscar. Bichir will receive a Career Achievement Award, which will also honor the 10th anniversary of his Oscar-nominated role in the film “A Better Life.”

“We are thrilled to be launching the first annual Celebration of Latino Cinema, which recognizes the talented performers and skilled professionals who create the acclaimed films we are so proud to honor,” said CCA nember and co-programmer of the event, Claudia Puig.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to LA Collab, which works to bolster Latino access, visibility and representation in the entertainment industry.
