Fifteen people suffered minor injuries when a tram crashed at Universal Studios Saturday evening.

The crash was reported around 9 p.m. Saturday at 3900 Lankershim Blvd., between Barham Boulevard and the Hollywood (101) Freeway in North Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Fred Fielding.

It was ultimately determined that 15 people all suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment, Fielding said from the scene. He had initially received reports that one person was critically injured and that nine had minor injuries.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known and the California Highway Patrol was tasked with the investigation.

CHP Officer Sergio Garcia said the initial report was that a tram had overturned.

KCAL reported that Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators believe that the crash may have been caused by a mechanical failure of some sort.
