The 2026 Los Angeles Marathon will be run on March 8, the McCourt Foundation, which owns the race, announced Thursday.
The marathon was originally set for March 15, which would have caused logistical conflicts with the Academy Awards which was also scheduled for that date.
Mayor Karen Bass announced on May 1 that the McCourt Foundation had agreed to reschedule the race to a date in March that would be announced in the coming days. Bass said she stepped “in to mediate,” with organizers of the two events, leading to an agreement that the Oscars would remain on March 15.
The agreement between the McCourt Foundation and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also includes a provision guaranteeing that the marathon will be held on the third Sunday of March each year.
The two organizations also agreed to establish a partnership to promote each other’s events to benefit the greater Los Angeles community, according to the joint statement from Murphy Reinschreiber, chief operating officer of the McCourt Foundation, and Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
