Playboy Magazine, the venerable men’s publication that helped start the sexual revolution, has ranked Los Angeles as the nation’s second sexiest city.
“Its reputation for beaches, blondes and sun is tough to beat,” the magazine wrote in its September issue released Wednesday. “But Los Angeles’s nightlife score is shockingly lower than New York’s.”

New York was described by the magazine as a city where “the people are hot, the sex is prime quality and the frequency is high.” NYC was also recognized for having “the best and most nightlife.”
Here’s how the magazine ranked America’s sexiest cities:
- New York
- Los Angeles
- Chicago
- Miami
- San Francisco
- Boston
- Seattle
- Las Vegas
- San Diego
- Portland
Playboy said its list was determined by results from two customized polls conducted exclusively for the magazine and other metrics such as “hot locals, cool nightlife, a great setting and an undercurrent of desire.”
Survey results voted Detroit the “unsexiest city in America.”
