A computer issue prompted a temporary halt to American Airlines flights to and from Dallas, Chicago and Miami Thursday, prompting delays at airports across the country and recommendations for Southland travelers at LAX and other local airports to contact the airline about the status of their flights.
It appeared that the problem only affected a limited number of flights at Los Angeles International Airport.
American Airlines officials said the computer problem began at about 9 a.m. Pacific time, and it was resolved about two hours later.
During the outage, the airline requested a ground stop for planes heading for Dallas-Fort Worth and Miami international airports, along with Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
According to the LAX website, two American flights — one bound for DFW and one for Miami — that were scheduled to depart Los Angeles at 11 a.m. were delayed. Other flights to Seattle, Shanghai and Indianapolis, however, remained on time.
Although the computer problem was resolved, LAX officials urged passengers to check with the airline about the status of flights in case there were residual delays.
