Construction work that was scheduled to begin Friday night on the Metro Purple Line’s Wilshire/La Brea Station has been postponed, authorities said.

That station is part of the planned “priority” rail route from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles along Wilshire Boulevard to the westside.

The work will be rescheduled.

Upcoming construction may mean some traffic delays in the area as it will include reconfiguring part of Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile area from three lanes to two lanes in each direction, Metro spokesman Dave Sotero said.

Construction on the station is part of the Metro Purple Line Extension Project, the nine-mile rail extension that will bring Metro’s train service from downtown Los Angeles to the Miracle Mile, Beverly Hills, Century City and Westwood.

Despite the delay, officials were optimistic.

“Los Angeles is closer than ever to making this long-anticipated project a reality, connecting West Los Angeles to the region’s growing rail network and improving mobility for everyone who lives, works and plays throughout Los Angeles County,” according to a Metro statement.
