This is the first weekend at The Los Angeles Zoo‘s five weekends of events to spotlight the importance of protecting the planet and its animals.

“Wild For The Planet” is debuting in celebration of Earth Day and will conclude Sunday, May 22, after a celebration of Endangered Species Day on May 20.

Weekend events will include a puppet show for youngsters starring a brave raccoon leading a quest to save an endangered species, a chance to make creative crafts with recyclable materials, worm composting demos, and a colorful, wildlife-themed sculpture made of paintings of local threatened species, including the monarch butterfly, mountain lion, peregrine falcon and steelhead trout.

All activities are included with paid zoo admission.
