The maker of the world’s first device that simultaneously charges, cleans and stores sex toys is asking for crowd funding financial support in a unique Kickstarter.com campaign.
Clean Light Laboratories, where the sex-toy device called “UVee” was invented, announced it has become “one of the first adult-related products to be allowed to campaign on the popular crowd funding platform, and the first for the sexual health and wellness category.”
Regardless of the erotic pleasure sex toys may bring, fully cleaning them after use is essential for good health.
“I have frequently seen vaginal infections from the use of less than adequately sterilized adult toys,” gynecologist Dr. Deborah Wilson was quoted by Clean Light in a statement. “E. coli in particular is a common culprit, but certainly not the only bacteria that is difficult to eliminate from toys.
“However, we encourage patients to use toys to stay sexually healthy. In fact, we sell toys in our practice.”
The Kickstarter Uvee site indicates a package of the rechargeable travel cleaning/charging/storage system, along with a vibrator, has an “expected retail value” of $220, although it’s available with a pledge of $169. As of Saturday, $6,618 had been pledged from 60 “backers,” with 40 days to go in the drive to the $25,000 goal.
It appeared the basic system could be obtained for a pledge as low as $89. However, backers were asked to make pledges for as little as $1 or even $5 “to buy us a drink” without receiving anything other than a video message of appreciation.
“Whether you share your toys or not, they can harbor bacteria that can cause disease,” said Wilson. “Until the Uvee system was introduced, there was never a scientifically proven way to kill germs associated with the use of toys.”
The mechanism uses a UV-C germicidal light that “bounces off custom interior waffled reflectors,” and is far more effective than spray and foam cleaners, according to the company. The Uvee device, invented by a mother-daughter team, is supposed to kill 99.9 percent of the most common bacteria.
