Thousands of runners and walkers, from seniors to children, are expected to turn out in downtown Los Angeles Thanksgiving morning for the city’s fifth annual Turkey Trot festivities.
Thursday’s events will include a 5K, 10K and a one-mile Widdle Wobble for the kids, according to organizers. Registration fees will support the work of the Midnight Mission which provides help to the homeless in the downtown area.
Registration on race day will open at 6:45 a.m. and the races and Widdle Wobble walk for children will run from 8 a.m. to noon. The events will all begin and end in front of City Hall at 200 N. Spring St. which will also host a race day festival.
The 5K will kick off at 8 a.m., the 10K at 8:45 a.m. and the Widdle Woddle at 10 a..m. Participants will all receive a Turkey Trot T-shirt, finisher medal and Turkey Trot bib, according to organizers. Participants need to bring a photo ID in order to register.
Registration fees for the events vary and will rise on race day by $5. Information on registration and the day’s festivities is available at www.turkeytrot.LA.
There will also be a number of road closures to accommodate the day’s races. These include:
— Spring Street from 1st to Temple from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m.;
— Spring Street from 1st to 9th from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.;
— South Hope Street from 3rd to Temple from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.;
— South Grand Avenue from 4th to Temple from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.;
— South Hope Street from 4th to Temple from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.;
— Lower Grand Avenue from 4th to 1st Street from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.;
— South Hill Street from 1st to Temple from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.;
— South Broadway from 2nd to Temple from 7:00am to 10:30 a.m.;
— West Temple Street from South Hill to Spring Street from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
