A motorcyclist killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Newhall Pass was publicly identified Monday.
Matthew L. Fielding, 25, was a La Crescenta resident, the California Highway Patrol and coroner’s office said.
The crash was at 11:10 a.m. Sunday in the truck lanes of the southbound 5 Freeway just north of Balboa Boulevard, CHP Officer M. Sandoval said.
A silver 2002 BMW was southbound on the Golden State Freeway in the No. 6 lane approaching the Foothill (210) Freeway when Fielding’s 1995 Kawasaki motorcycle slammed into the car’s right side, Sandoval said.
“As a result of the collision, Fielding was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the southbound truck lanes,” the officer said.
The man and woman in the BMW were not hurt, Sandoval said.
The southbound truck lanes were shut down for about four hours for the CHP investigation, Sandoval said.
