A shallow micro earthquake struck Thursday morning in the Trancas Canyon section of the Malibu area.
The quake, which had a 2.8 magnitude, was reported at 12:35 a.m., according to a statement from the City of Malibu. The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the quake on the basis of a computer-generated generated report and said it had occurred at 12:35 a.m. at a depth of 1 mile (2 kilometers), its epicenter 4 miles northwest of Malibu.
A public works crew was headed to the area to check for any damage, the city statement said.
